Article & Commentary Submissions:
Articles for publication are welcomed by the editors. Ethics & Medicine is peer-reviewed. Material submitted may be returned for revisions. Articles should be submitted in electronic format. Authors should supply a removable cover sheet with the title of the article and the author’s name. No other personal attribution should appear at the head of each article. Contributors will be notified as soon as possible of editorial decision, though the process can take some time. Contributors are asked to follow the pattern of published material for length, subheading, and so forth. Ethics & Medicine uses The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), 18th edition, as a standard guide. Full Notes style (in endnote formatting) is preferred, but Ethics & Medicine will accept submissions utilizing CMOS Author-Date-Page style with full bibliography from fields where this style is the norm. All submissions should be submitted in .DOC or .DOCX file formats and follow one of the noted CMOS styles. Authors should also consult the Author Guidelines for Submissions to Ethics & Medicine prior to submission for additional clarifications regarding the style and format expectations of manuscripts.
“2025 AI Policy Addendum to Author Guidelines for Submission”
Please note the following policy clarification has been added to our submission guidelines effective July 2025:
“Authors must provide written confirmation that the submission is solely the work of the listed authors, and attest that they have not used generative AI, LLMs, nor any similar artificial intelligence program to develop or contribute to the content or citations. This policy does not apply to submissions in which the analysis of such generated material is germane to the subject of the submission. In such cases, the content must be clearly documented in the submission, noting which generative AI product and exact prompts. Authors should include a supplemental statement to the editors of Ethics & Medicine explaining the necessity of the use of generative AI specific to their submission.”
An outline CV along with a brief abstract and keywords (listing no more than 10) should accompany each contribution.
